• Drink 6-8 glasses of water. Water is needed to dilute and flush out toxins in the body. It also hydrates the body to allow property circulation of body fluids.
  • Take a little walk every 30 minutes. This is very important. Walking help the flow of messages being sent to the brain during the time your Bowen treatment is active. It also pumps the lymphatic system allowing the movement of lymph through the body to help rid it of toxins.
  • Wait for the body to do the work. Remember that Bowen will keep working for a week or so after your treatment.
  • Any exercises given to you by your therapist. These are part of your treatment. They are given to assist the body to strengthen the areas of concern and educate the body of what the preferred condition is. Exercises should be commenced the day after treatment but NEVER push the body to the point you are in pain. Only do the exercises within your comfort range.
  • Use any homeopathic medicines, flower essences, vitamins or prescribed medications that you usually take.


  • Do any strenuous activity. Give your body a rest from activities such as heavy lifting on the day of your treatment.
  • Cross your arms or legs. Try to keep them straight when sitting and standing to improve circulation.
  • Use¬†extremes of hot and cold. No ice / heat packs, spas or saunas and extreme temperatures in the shower.
  • Play ‘contact’ sport. Only on the day of your treatment.
  • Use another modality. Leave 5 days either side of your Bowen treatment before having any chiropractic, massage, acupuncture or physio – allow the integration of Bowen into the body.
