“How Will I Feel After My Bowen Therapy Treatment?”
Everybody responds differently to Bowen Therapy.
You may initially feel tired or you may feel more energised straight away. You may feel you need to go to bed early. Honour your body and allow it to rest. It needs to work. Healing takes place when the body is in deep relaxation or sleep. Learn to listen to what your body is asking of you.
Your pain may become more specific in locations or even move to a different location in the body. This is part of the healing process when an injury retracts back to the original source.
If you have any questions or concerns at all, please contact us. Fear can limit the potential outcome of your treatment. Your call is always welcome.
“Do I Need To Come Back Again?”
The second treatment is just as, if not more important than the first for two reasons:
- In the case of an acute injury, the second treatment sets the work so there is less chance of you re-injuring – especially if the injury occurred through sport or work;
- In the case of chronic illness, there may be vital work we were unable to do on the first treatment that will go along way to long-term success in treating the condition.
It is recommended that you return 5-7 days after your first treatment.
Most conditions respond very quickly to Bowen therapy and often between 3-6 sessions should be enough.
Once the condition is resolved, it is a good idea to schedule regular maintenance treatments (every 4-6 weeks) to keep you feeling great. The benefits of these are:
- feeling able to move more freely;
- less chance of old conditions recurring;
- helps you feel more relaxed;
- better able to copy with stress;
- increased feeling of well-being;
- may be less vulnerable to colds and flu’s.
“What Else Can I Use to Help?”
There are a few other things you can try to help ease your condition:
- Apple Cider Vinegar – great for bruising;
- Washing Soda Crystals – dry park to relieve swelling (ask us for details);
- Bowtech Ease (available at Bowen For Goodness Sake)
“What Is Fascia?”
Fascia is a specialised system of the body that has an appearance similar to a spider’s web. It is very densely woven, covering and interpenetrating every muscle, bone, nerve, artery and vein, as well as all our internal organs. The most interesting aspect of the fascial system is that it is not just a system of seperate coverings. It is actually one continuous structure that exists from head to toe without interruption. Trauma, inflammatory responses and surgical procedures create myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressure on pain sensitive structures that do not show up on many standard tests. A very high percentage of people suffering with pain and/or lack of motion may be having fascial problems which are very difficult to diagnose.
“Who Can Have Bowen Therapy?”
Bowen is safe to be performed on a delicate newborn baby or on a fragile elderly person.
“Do I Have To Take My Clothes Off?”
Your practitioner will ask you if you are comfortable to be in your underwear for your treatment. You will be covered at all times, only exposing the area of the body currently being worked on. However, if you are not comfortable with this, wear light, loose fitting clothing that is easy to work through.
“Can I Use My Private Health Insurance?”
This will depend on your insurer and on your level of cover. Check with your insurer. Also, mention to us that you would like to use your insurance when making your appointment.
“How Long Is a Bowen Therapy Treatment?”
An initial treatment will take 1 hour, this includes a health assessment before hand. Any on-going treatments will range from 10 minutes to 1 hour depending on how much work needs to be performed.
